I purchased some fertile eggs from a local farm. This little guy came out of an egg that was supposed to be a Red Star or Black Star (Sex Link). Whenever I look at Black Star Chicks they are all black but as you can see this one is white. Is this a Black Star Rooster or something else?

Thanks!

2nd generation isn't the same, and he could be half red star and half black. He clearly got the silver gene. a delaware, which looks similar, originated from from a male new hampshire red and a barred rock hen. black stars likely have some barred rock in them and some red sex links could have new hampshire in them (columbian gene causing the mostly solid body color). If he has barring, it isn't much (can't tell).

THanks! I'm always a bit confused on this stuff. Do you think it looks like a Rooster? We only have hens as of right now. So, we are wondering.

Yep, it's a rooster.

Agree it's likely mixed. Stars, as all sex links, are a one time cross and don't breed true. Breeding a sex link to a sex link can bring out all sorts of wild card genes. He's a cute little guy!
