Do all Black Star Pullets have red in their breast feathers? Can they have some white in their wing tips? Mine came from McMurry. TIA

I can take one tonight.

A black commet is just another name for BSL. The pics on feather site all show them with the red feathers but out of 5 that were shipped to me, only 2 have the red coloring. They all have the green or purple irredescence to their feathers. They will be 7 weeks tomorrow and one still has some yellow fluff on it's neck.

I think the red coloring varies greatly between birds. One of our BSL's has an almost completely red head and neck, while some of the others only have a little on their breasts.

I'm trying to remember if our BSL's had white wing tips when they first feathered out. I think our Australorps each had at least one feather on their wings with a white tip. I'm afraid I don't remember if BSL's had the same thing. Is that what you're talking about, or are they really white tipped?

We have 3 Black Stars from McMurrey. They are appoximately 7 months old. One is Black with rust color feathers in her neck and breast, one is black with white in her breast feathers and the other one is solid black. They have been laying 3 eggs a day since they were 18 weeks old. They are wonderful girls, very spoiled and getting a bit demanding! But we don't mind!

Yes, it is just a couple of white spots, not a complete white tip.

Thanks for the info! My order came a bit mixed up and I got quite a few packing peanuts. I need to thin out some but I want to make sure I know what they are before I sell them. I still haven't figures out what my free rare breed is unless it was one of my extra silver leghorns

I guess it would make sense that some BSL's would have some white coloring, because aren't they a cross between a Barred Plymouth Rock and a Rhode Island Red. BR's have white in them.

lol, you make a very good point wordgirl!

The 1st pic is of one that I am sure is a red star and the 2nd 2 are of one I am asking about.
