This little one has been through a lot, she was almost dead when we opened the package. We fed her with an eyedropper until she could walk and eat on her own. She is a bit runty, but is now the same size as my Polish pullets! Yet, now a new card has turned for this little lady. I fear she is showing signs of being a rooster. I have no knowledge of Black Sumatra's at all, so any help available is gladly taken. Also, as a side question, she still has baby feathers on her face, when will they come out and mature? or is she going to have a white Raccoon face for the rest of her days?

I can't get photos to upload, so have some annoying links instead, my apologies.

Thanks in Advance!!

It will lose the raccoon mask, and be all black. At 3 to 4 months old the roosters start to get saddle and hackle feathers. This will be your best bet to see whether it's a pullet or rooster as sumatras don't get red combs or wattles and these don't get big either on this breed.

She is about four months, we got her in April. I was thinking I could see some pointed feathers, but I wanted a second opinion because I always think they're all roosters.

Okay, I guess my habit of thinking they're all roosters happened again. Thank You for assuring me.

I have a mystery chick that I was told was an Australorp when I bought it. It is about 7.5 weeks old, and half the size of her companions of the same age. Does this look like a Sumatra, or something else, to you?

Looks like a sumatra at first glace but I see a comb developing and possible wattle sprouting....if I had to guess: Jersy Giant. Most a-lorps end up actually being JGs from the hatchery. they think we cant tell but those yellow feet are a give away.
