My great-grandmother was full Cherokee. Her given name, and I'm sure you know what I mean by that, was Apple. My dad lived on the reservation for a couple of years after his mother died. I feel very connected...Its a state of mind, you know?

PACK UP AND MOVE!
LEAVE THE HOUSE, FAMILY, DOG, CAT. (but take the chickens)
AND MOVE NOW!

THE ONLY GOOD B/W IS A DEAD B/W!!!!!!

Seriously, if they are outside it's only a matter of time before they end up IN THE HOUSE!!!!

I"M NOT KIDDING!!! If you see ONE female there are TWENTY you don't see!. and countless males (I don't worry about them though)

ONE female can produce over 80 babies (that live)

Most B/W bites don't end up in death but I 'garontee' you'll wish you were dead.

Trust me, if she is alive SHE WILL BREED, if she breeds, THEY WILL EVENTUALLY END UP IN THE HOUSE. you REALLY DON"T WANT THAT!!!!!

there are too many other beneficial spiders to enjoy.

I didn't catch if anyone here has actually been bitten by one? I have. I was an adult, and it's an experience I hope never to repeat, as it was miserable.

That said, I'm not advocating killing one, but if having her there becomes a problem in any way for you guys/hens etc., you could relocate her.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but....

...in certain areas of south America the black widow population is so large that people who are bitten are not given the anti-venom until they're all but dead. The reason being (from what I understand) is that the anti-venom can only be given once in a person's life and that with the large widow population that there is a good chance that the person will be bitten again in the future and need the anti-venom more urgently at that time.

I've got a 2 year old granddaughter and an 81-year old mother...I think nothing of killing the black widow spiders.

Wow, haven't seen some of these poster's names in ages!

On the BLACK WIDOW note... I kill one every chance I get. And I get lots of chances. Seems if a bucket is overturned out in a field for longer than 24 hours, a Black Widow has called it home.
