What happened?

Two weeks apart both of our drakes - one jumbo, one just huge - got hit by flystrike. They both had issues walking we carried them all around, checked them over daily but each one, two sunday mornings apart walked out of the coop with godawful flystrike spots. I tried to save them but the maggots were internal already. Went septic by evening and we had to put them down.

When people refer to the "vent", its just a polite term for their rear, where they poop/lay eggs/mate from.
