blackening combs

We've got two roosters. Both of their combs are blackening starting at the tips. I really have no idea why, but thinking maybe frostbite or burns. We have a heat lamp hangning above the roosts, but they get right, right up under it. they can't touch it though. I don't know. Maybe you all have an idea why or what to do? If you need pictures I can try to get some tomorrow. Thanks.
 
Hi, I have heard that rooster's combs are more susceptible to frost bite because they are so large. but I really don't know, maybe someone else will be able to answer for you.
