Blackhead disease or depression

yikes,. ours here is all yellow, nothing else in it. I will try to take a pic tomorrow.

Necropsy pictures here:
Here he is looking very stoic three hours before he died. You can't tell from the picture, but he's about 1kg (2.2 pounds) underweight.

Here is a poop picture, but it looked much more yellow than it does here.

Here are the necropsy pictures from one of the peacocks.

Liver and cecal pouches

Contents of cecal pouch - black liquid poop, NOT normal!

Inside of cecal pouch

Liver with the blackhead spots and I think the black edges are necrotic

That was not my peacock, it was one that someone asked me to treat, but they waited too long to start treatment.

No offense was taken. Since there were no pictures of the poo at the time of my post, I didn't really have much to go on, so I thought the depression idea might carry some weight.

I would believe depression if it had just been separated from it's clutchmates or mother, but yellow poop is a sign that something is very wrong with the liver, and in turkeys and peafowl, it's usually blackhead (histomoniasis). This thread has some good info in it:

@Jbureau , If this poult is a pet and you can afford it, you really should take it to a vet in the morning. A vet will have metronidazole suspension, Baytril and will probably give fluids, which they can show you how to do, and you should also have them show you how to tube feed.

Hi Kathy

We got Metronidazole from the vet and now it is the challenge to give it every 12 hours which I think I succeeded the first time. What do you suggest for food. I don't think she has eaten in a couple of days. She drinks well but I don't think she is eating. She is pretty wobbly and almost looks drunk still. She has to be weak from lack of food. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JB

When mine aren't eating I tube feed them. Watch the videos and read the links. I promise you it's easier than it sounds. FWIW, I am available by phone if you can get the supplies.
