Blacklisting buyers? Rant about a buyer

I have been emailing the buyer for awhile now trying to give him ideas on how to catch him. He tells me the bird is 3 stories up in a tree. I can tell ya he has gotten away from me here and it didn't take me 2 days to catch him. I suggested hens, bread inside a dog crate, leaving his coop door open so the bird can find his way into it..... I mean I have been beside myself for 2 days now worrying about this cockrel. I am about to drive over there and grab him myself, it's been tooo long with NO food/water. This JERK is tooo darn lazy to really try to catch him but emails me on how he hasn't had ANY success catching him. I believe he is not trying hard enough. Best time to catch him is at night when he is calm. If I were him I'd be shimmying up that tree! God I am soooo mad and sad at the same time. I won't sleep until this bird is caught, if it is me who catches him U bet your bottom dollar I will be bringing him back home. I really don't wanna drive out there an hour and a half away, 3 hours round trip but feel I may have to for the birds sake. I am usually really careful who I sell these birds to but I have to admit this particular bird has given me alot of trouble and I was pressed to get rid of him. There is NO taming him, he is extremely wild, in fact I have never raised a bird this fleighty before. However when I sold him to this guy I gave him a full disclaimer, told him not only did he like to get away from people but he also loved to bite, the guy said "ohh thats ok" I remember saying to him as he was driving away, be careful when you open your trunk.....

He reaped what he sow. It is his fault so if you feel so bad about the cockeral, don't sell him anymore birds.

Those things happens and when you are dealing with selling and buying, sometimes you have to let it go. I've given my prized hens away to a dear friend of mine but I understood the risks that she does have predator problems on her farm and it is part of life. I can not expect the owner to have everything in a Ft Knox, lockdown type of set up for the birds. If I was to fret and get upset about every bird I give or sell, I would have been in a nervous breakdown. Not worth it.

Since he is such a distance away, the cockeral can not be found or evasive toward humans, Seramas can be really smart on their wings that is a real advantage because they sure can FLY! I hope the cockeral finds himself a home, probably for someone else than that gentleman.

If it was me, even I may be so close to the bird, let it go and focus on what you have in your flock and next time, go with your gut feeling. Lessons to be learn for you and the gentleman. I agree with Michaelwrangler.

Your right and normally I don't hear horrible things like this from buyers, just happy stories. I would have been much better dealing with this had a predator gotten to him. Instant closure for me that way. Knowing this poor bird as nuts as he was is out there all alone with no food and water is the hard part. I am just tooo soft hearted to sweep it under the rug, that bird is all I can think about lately. There would be no way in HECK I would EVER sell him another bird again. I stand behind that decision. I could do without his daily emails about how he can't catch him and doesn't know what to do tho. He was a younger asian man who had lots of birds from thai gamefowl to oegb so he is experienced with birds but just not this little guy

One major concern is winter coming around the bend. There is NO WAY that poor little guy will survive outside over the winter with no shelter or anything. As I understand it the guy is the only one with birds in his neighborhood. AT least thats what he told me. Believe me I want nothing more then to forget about this whole mess and move on but this one is tough

I sold some silkies this spring. The lady came and did not want the colors her husband had ordered (Pet Quality). She wanted some of my promising youngsters for her daughter, so I sold these at PQ price. Biggest mistake that ever happened. I stressed that these cannot be freeranged unless you are out with them to watch over them because of their crest size. Her husband emailed me bback saying that they let them out to roam with the layer birds and a hawk killed a couple. Then a dog came through the property and killed tthe rest. He wanted to know if I had any pullets available in the most recent email he sent me.

Sorry but I'm not selling to you again...

I agree with you there! I have had that happen as well but for me thats instant closure even though I feel horrible about any losses. The what if's are killing me. I had a person last year buy a serama from me right before winter. I stated that the bird WILL need heat! That person didn't listen and the first cold snap we got the bird died and that person then asked me for more. NO WAY! My $%^& list is growing fast.... Those poor silkies

that is soooo sad to hear! Some people can be soooo stupid eh? Thats common sense with silkies, they can't see because of their crests so why in the world would nayone put them out in the yard with no shelter from predators, thats just asking for it IMO.

Because people think it's cute to let them free range.

Poor things.

What state is this guy in? Could you get on that state's thread to give people there a head's up? I'm sure you would rather a nice BYC person find him than his "owner."

EweSheep, its michickenwrangler--short for Michigan Chicken Wrangler. Michael is my uncle! I'm a gal.

He is in Wisconsin.... Prescott to be exact. I haven't heard anything today so I fear the worst happened to the rooster or the kid gave up on trying to guilt me into selling him another.. Lesson learned will NEVER sell to him again or any of his brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles ect.... Makes me fear selling any more seramas unless I know the person and know they will take good care of these little gems.

This is so sad. I can't believe people like that.

It has been me shimmering up a tree or climbing on a weak shed rooftop to collect a wayward birg (learned the value of wing clipping after that!). It's just what you do when you're responsible for creatures who are weaker than you.

Hope the guy truly gets what he deserves.
