Bleach solution OK for fly control?

Don't the chickens eat the maggots? My muscovy ducks eat the maggots and the young ducks spend hours snapping up the flies.
If chickens eat maggots, I'll send them out there tomorrow! Don't have ducks to get the flies. And we have horseflies, too. Yucky.

I found 2 of my coturnix dead today....probably from my spraying bleach near them. :-( Geepers. Try to fix one thing and end up hurting another.

I was told You dont want to mix bleach with amonia. It may burn their lungs breathing it.
I would use lime or the DE to help dry it up .Then I use the Vanilla scented Xmas trees you buy for your car. I hang these in my milk room to deture flies.
They cant stand the vanilla scent. If you go to Auto Zone they have refill spray for your car to refresh the hanging trees.
Place them in a baggie and spray good let them set overnite and rehang untill the scent fades. It works try it.

Qchickie,

Hens love maggots.....they will turn the squirmy things in to eggs for you. Bleach applied to an ammonia laced area like manure will create Chloramine and that vapor will rise and is toxic. Birds are very susceptible to chloramine and would not be surprised it killed them. If it killed some there are more out their with damaged lungs.

house flies are nothing but bacteria and the maggots from flies are laddened with bacteria, they are not sterile. i would not want my chickens or quail to eat them, since i use both quail and chicken for my own consumption, they are what they eat.
