Hi, I was wondering if it is necessary to bleach our chickens water buckets? I refill them with fresh water every morning, and several times a day in hot weather. When they start to look dirty I scrub them (we have well water so about every other day I rub off the scum that settles to the bottom of the bucket). If I should be bleaching them, how many times a week and what is the ratio of bleach to water I should use?
Thanks!

I use apple cider vinegar. I don't measure. I just pour about 1 cup into a 5 gallon bucket. They say it helps cut down on the green fuzz from growing inside. I think it helps some...

If you are asking if bleach is necessary, then no it is not.
Fresh clean water and waterers are always a good idea.
I clean both the waterer and treat dish daily, but do not bleach.

Bleach might be a good idea if you know there is something in the well water.

Yes I am just wondering if it is necessary. I don't think there is anything bad in the water (they've been getting along just fine with it so far) but maybe I will use the apple cider vinegar, it seems like a less toxic way of disinfecting!
