Bleeding from the beak...

Quote:
I know the exact feeling. My first batch threw 2 male (why are they always male) Whites. One of my big girls killed them both. GD loved them. I had to try for more. That's Vanilla that I talk about. Not enough, so I had to get more, cause he was so pretty. So I have around 25 out there and I picked up more eggs, so we'll see.

Just keep building pens, that's all you can do.

Hope he is well in the morning. But like I tell my GD, I won't let them suffer if anything happens. She's young but understands.

Ok, I examined it as well as it will allow. There is no damage to the beak its self. There is blood on both corners of the mouth, flowing enough to drip from the tip of the beak. I cant tell if there is a injury like a peck at the corner of the mouth or not, bird just wont allow that. It has settled down some, and the bleeding has again slowed. I feel it may be a injury to the cuticle area where the beak meets feathers at the corner of the mouth. Just cant be sure. Its got enough blood smeared on its self now, there aint no way the rest would leave it alone without a bath. I guess I'll keep it alone, if it lives, it can be the grand daughters pet. She fell in love with it anyway. Can you keep one alone? Bill

with eyedropper, drip some ice water on the beak where you think it is bleeding.. will prob take sips of it as well... the extra fluids wont hurt it if it is losing blood.. and hopefully the cold will help cause vasoconstriction and help staunch the bleeding..
If you can see where it is bleeding from and is accessible direct pressure is always the best. if it is a slow seep on the outside.. the old styptic pencil may work.

Dab Some Corn Starch Around The Suspect Area... Wont Hurt Him Any. May Stop The Bleeding As Well As Help Illustrate The Actual Source Of Bleeding For You

Well, The bleeding seems to have stopped. I rubbed a bit of corn starch on its face. It only stuck to the mouth area I could see was wet with blood. This did piss the bird off and it went straight to the water dish and drank deeply. I dont know if I helped it or it just survived me help'in and quit bleeding on its own. Either way the blood flow has stopped. Its still in distress, maybe due to be'in alone. I think I have to keep it separate, Guess the GD gets a big white smelly pet. I thank everyone for the help. Bill

I felt kinda guilty. Its been handled so many times tonight. If it makes it thru all the Dr'in, GD will surly love it to death.... Bill

It is going to need companionship. I think it will be to lonely by itself.
I gave Vanilla 3 females that I didn't want as breeders, one is very big indeed. Use those eggs for eating eggs. But I may hatch some someday just for fun.

So in the morning when all is well, pick him out about 3 - 4 females (spotted chest).
You can change them out later if you want or if they get to be the biggest and you want them for breeders. That could happen when there is no competition for food.

Actually you now have an experiment you can try.
