New member, thank you ya'll for the great chicken sight! It's been alot of help being new to chickens. My wife, two sons and I really love our six white leghorns we got at Tractor Supply. Were homesteading in western MA with a large garden, hunting, fishing, gathering, chickens, and two full time jobs. The girls are so cool! After work I like grabbing a couple of beers and watch them. I have a buddy that has helped me along and he suggested I get reds because they are good cold weather birds. I ended up with the leghorns and couldn't be happier, but I want them to be OK in the winter. I have another friend who grew up here and had leghorns all the time and said they were just fine. Does anybody have any input? thank you and God bless

Leghorns are such great birds. Good luck with everything!

Welcome to BYC. I used to have Leghorns...they are egg laying machines. They tolerate the heat and humidity real well here...dont know about the freezing temps yall get though.
