Blind duckling

We received our first ever ducklings yesterday and they're so cute! We got a Saxony, a Black Swedish and a Chocolate Runner.

As it turns out, our little CR appears to be blind. I don't mind helping her out with feedings and watering but I'm nervous about eventually moving them outside. Though the chickens and ducks have imprint housing, they do free range (supervised). Have any of you had or heard of a blind duck living a happy and healthy life? Do I let the others roam and keep her in the run?

I was just going to say it would be great if she had a buddy doesn’t even have to be handicapped. We recently saw a created duckling who was having trouble walking and her buddy was a normal duck but stayed right by her side. Sure wish you the best with your ducklings.

Thank you so much! She has two sisters tha t seem to be looking out for her -- a little while ago I watched them corral her from their snuggling/sleep spot to the food and water dishes. It was the sweetest thing! Hopefully they continue to look out for her.

You're awesome for taking care of her! Just make sure her new pen has no sharp edges our objects. She could do some damage to her eyes even through they don't work. I have a blind dog, and we have to watch out for twigs and stuff. Things their level we might not notice.
Pleas keep us updated on her progress and thanks again for giving her a chance.

That's great news. ♡ We'll be building her a special place outside that will be covered on all sides (we have air and ground predators) so she gets to experience nature in a safe environment. I'm now determined to try to find another blind or "impared" duck/duckling to be her buddy when the others are out roaming about.

You rock!!!! :hugs

Very good point, thank you! We'll make sure she's safe and free of shard edges our sticky-outy bits. ♡
