Blind runner duck

Nelson should do quite well on the Mazuri Waterfowl. Runners are energetic, animated, friendly (if raised right), smart, responsive. Some of mine are a little conservative about new things, some are early adopters, one in particular is quite the explorer. She is also the greeter - likes to meet people.

One is less interested in most people, but quite plucky. A few are huggy, no one likes being picked up. One is a real smarty pants.

Oh they all sound fun!

When would you guys recommend making the first in contact introduction between him and the girls.. They have been able to see him for two days. I am most worried that he may be to weak still to be in with them since they are considerable larger then he is.

He seems a little off on his time schedule. I would think he could tell just by the air temperature the night verse the day but it seems like he's mostly sleeping all day and up during the night

Could have alot to do with where he came from. Is his pen very secure? alot of preds make their rounds in the night and it could be he is afraid.


I'd try putting them in a situation where they are not in each others pen right off, can they be let into your back yard that way it's more neutral ground and if the girls over whelm him they can be easily herded back into their run,. If you have a yummy treat they all like they will hopefully go for that instead of bowling him over. lol

And I do have an outside fence around their two runs which none of the ducks have been in yet because I planted new grass (I put it up for a second fence to keep predators a further distance from their actual runs and for extra space for supervised playtime) So it would be neutral area for them to meet in when it comes time.

Sounds like a really nice set up,Maybe give him a few more days to get his bearing and some extra strength then see how it goes, or just go by your own instincts on when you think the time is right. When you do let them out be sure to talk constantly in a soft voice just to help him keep his bearings.
