Blind runner duck

Nelson is so precious and you are such a great person to take him in. Good luck with him.

He is so beautiful... bless you for rescuing him. Our female was blind in one eye from some early trauma (before we adopted her) and she got on just fine. I want to hope there is a chance his eyesight might improve with proper nutrition and treatment. Some are anti-antibiotics, but if the swelling is from infection it could help. Her son Nemo was born with one eye swelled from a bacterial infection in his egg... was convinced he'd be blind in that eye. Whether the two injuries were genetically related we'll never know. Our vet administered Baytril and he fully recovered. Just give Nelson lots of love and reassurance!

Here is some more information...

Thank you! I will take a look at the link!

Another few questions. Watching Nelson today he only pays any attention to Petri (my obvious female pekin, she is very LOUD). Nelson paced up and down the fence by her when she was taking her bath and is absolutely infatuated with her. Meanwhile Nelson did not take a second to notice Bentley (my other Pekin who has no drake feather, nor is he loud like Petri.) Bentley & petri are 3 months old) Should Bentley already have a drake feather at 3 months? Bentley also act terrified of Nelson... will not get near the fence when Nelson is close. On the other hand Petri in between soaking everyone in the area with water tries to peck at Nelson through the fence.

If Bentley ends up also being a drake how will this change the situation?

If Bentley is a boy, they could get into a scuffle... just monitor the interactions closely, especially while Nelson is weak. Someone could peck his eyes if they appear to be a weakness. I would hold off introductions until he is in better health and even then be mindful of the dynamic... two boys and one girl is not a good ratio for Petri!

Well we have 1 female 3 males (not including our female ducklings)

The only one interested in breeding with the female is our Blue Swedish, and due to him harassing my Crested Mallard/Rouen he will be going to a nice home.
But there are the days they try to breed with her all at the same time

But that doesn't happen often.

I have never seen a duck fight :/ But the drakes are good at breaking up rooster scuffles.

And my geese will break up drakes and rooster scuffles. kinda like the mafia and any hanky panky going on too.

Yikes! So i am going to keep them separated until he is for sure feeling as good as possible. And hopefully if Bentley is a drake that feather with pop up soon?

Triple antibiotic is excellent for eyes. In dog and cat rescue it is what we use. I have been given it by vets. It gets rid of infection.
