One of my hens has a red sore on her tummy. It isn't bleeding and she is active during the day but it looks painful. Maybe it is from the roost rubbing her tummy. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how I can help this heal up? No feathers are growing there to give her protection. Poor baby!

Maybe an apron on backwards for her to protect the front? I think you can give them neosprorin (sp?) to help with healing, then the apron to protect until some feathers grow back. Is it possible feather picking? How many hens do you have in how big of a space? Is there enough roosts for all? Possible that there is trying to be a change in head hen?

1st thing I would do is to check her and her housing for parasites. Are there any rough areas on her roost? To help her wound heal I would clean it well and put an antibiotic such as Neosporin(without the pain reliever) on it. As it gets better I would then keep Blue-Kote on it until it heals.
