Blisters/Bumblefoot

Last week (Wednesday) I was treating Matilda for bumblefoot and used tweezers to pull out some pus from her left foot. It bled a little and I started her on metacam that day. The next day, her foot was very swollen and red. I brought her inside and unwrapped her foot, since the bandage seemed to be aggravating it. The day after, her foot was even worse and seemed like there were blisters on top of the foot and her leg itself was swollen and was sensitive to the touch. A big black scab once again formed, so I feel terrible that whatever I did made things much worse. We’ve been soaking her feet in warm epsom salt water multiple times a day since and she’s stayed in the garage so I can make sure it stays clean. After each soak, we spray with vetericyn and then slather with neosporin. The blisters seem to be mostly gone, but nevertheless I’m still concerned. The whole flock is also on tylan right now for a respiratory issue and she is also having green poop this morning (photo is what was passed in less than 20 minutes during a soak). Eating and drinking normally and still on metacam as well. I bought save-a-chick probiotic for her yesterday to hopefully help with the loose stools. I’m hoping to avoid the vet if possible, but prepared we may have to go that route. I’m currently in the middle of Hurricane Henri, so can’t go anywhere today. I love her so much and feel terrible that I clearly made things worse. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Bandages can get too tight if they slip, and can cause swelling and poor circulation. I would continue what you are doing, warm soaks every day, followed by Vetericyn and Neosporin. I have seen bumblefoot on top between the toes as well. If it doesn’t start getting better, post again.

Will do, thank you! I’m supposed to move into college in a week, so I may take her to the vet if it doesn’t improve a lot.

Update: We did take her to the vet. It's a skin infection that hadn't reached her bone yet, thankfully. The vet herself (avian vet) wasn't sure where it could have come from. She's on clavamox and metacam and is much better. We have been continuing epsom salt soaks and then wiping with antibacterial/antifungal wipes before applying a prescription ointment and re-wrapping. She had a recheck yesterday and the vet was impressed with her progress. The crusty material had peeled off and the vet pulled out the bumble in one chunk yesterday without even really trying. She is wearing boots made from pool noodles and duct tape that the vet made and has to continue medications until everything is clear and the hole in her foot is closed.
