Blockage in the esophagus

I was wondering if anyone has gone through this or know someone that has and if so would you mind sharing what happened good or bad?

Some of the older members already know that I have been dealing with a eating disorder for over three years now. I have finally after tons of treatment started recovering from the disorder and have actually gained weight. Well I am sad to say that I'm losing again but not because I'm not trying to eat. I have a blockage and it will not allow food to travel to my stomach. This started a couple of weeks ago.

Guys I'm terrified about whats going to happen to the point I convinced myself not to go to the specialitist that I was supposed to see today. So its back to the good old Ensures for my meals right now. "yummy"

I was hoping to hear from someone who may have some advice to ease my nerves so that I can get my butt to see that doctor. Any info would be helpful.

I work as an RN in our local hospital . I know of several cases where one of the gastroenterologists has stretched and dilated someones esophagus to help food pass and make swallowing easier. Sometimes it does have to be repeated every so often but the results are usually good. Best wishes.

Get it dialated and stretched, BUT do it with someone that you KNOW has a good record.

There can be complications if they haven't done it a lot... I had a friend who had their carotid artery start bleeding internally... she is lucky they were able to do emergency surgery.

It's routine now for many specialists.

Just go get it done, you can't live on Ensure for the rest of your life.

I don't want to sound harsh and I do not know you personally.
BUT
IMO you need to stop feeling scared & sorry for yourself and asking for sympathy, advice, etc. and get your butt to the doctor.
It's as simple as that.
No one can replace the care of a professional doctor. The internet is not the right forum nor is it a good choice to ask any unlicensed person instead of going to a REAL DOCTOR. They have the skills to deal with your situation, anything less is reckless.

I hope you take my advice as it is intended, to motivate you to go to a true medical professional and get the help you need. It is not intended to hurt your feelings or sound uncaring... Quite the opposite.

I do not want sympthany. I am terrified, I cried myself to sleep last night I was so scared. I just wanted to know what it could be, what to expect. I was so freightned so that is why I asked the people here for any experience or knowledge they may have. I didn't know there was a law against being scared.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings.
You said you had an appointment already and had talked yourself out of going.
I simply wanted you to get a new appointment and get the help you truly need.

Sara, I cant bring Cassi to you and Snake Man for guidence with snake handling if you dont go get that checked out.
We want you well and healthy when we come to visit, it may be only for a week but dang it its going to be the best week yet.
so run to the specialist and let us know whats happening and I know I and cassi will be right here for you.
You need us we will respond not a problem. we want you well and happy.

What you are going through may be simple fix stuff, Reflux disease is easily treated but you need a dr to do it.
I have problems with reflux and it has some of the same symptoms. its not fun and the hard to swallow is a huge PITB, but with proper meds it keeps it to a minimum.
so get on to the drs, get it checked out and let me know how your doing.
then Cassi and I can make plans for july or aug before school goes back in session.

Thanks Gypsy, you would never beleive all the things that were going through my head that it could be. After suffering from this eating disorder for 3 years and 4 months now all I could think about was it was payback time for all the abuse I did to my body. I kept telling myself if it was bad then all I could do was accept it because I did it to myself.

Does Cassi have a snakehook?

I am going to answer both posts in one makes it easier that way.
If they do the dialation it is in the hospital, not something that can be or should be done in an office.
It isnt a huge operation, and usually recovery is short time, not something that will go on forever, Like Mr M said there are risks but the risks are far outweighed by the final outcome. yes it may reoccur but the chances are it wont.
Please get it checked out and come back and let us know it isnt very serious and can be simply taken care of.

As for the snake hook no she doesnt have one as yet. on a good note she does have feeding tongs, took me forever to find them up here. not many specialty shops here.
had to harrass Pet Smart into getting me a pair. geesh kinda kin to pulling hen teeth. for a while I got to thinking the hen tooth would have been easier locating. lol.
