The glob is wastes(Poop). The umbilical cord looks like a string.

Some may take longer then others, some hatch faster then others.

Ok, yea I never saw a string. When I removed the egg shell nothing was connected that I could see. The reason for removing the egg shell was that it closed around another egg that was pipped.

It was probably inside the goop.

It's fine, I remove shells to prevent that, also to keep the incubator abit cleaner.
