Chirping
I came down to the barn this morning and Matilda, one of my 2 year old hens, was sitting on the ground in their coop, lethargic. Upon closer inspection, i saw that there was blood all over her bum feathers with no apparent wounds.
Last night, I noticed that she was lethargic and her comb was bleeding a bit (I got it to stop), I assumed from a pecking injury, and I thought she was just in shock. But then, as my brother was holding her, she threw up a bunch of water from her crop — essentially her entire crop contents, just water. Once we put her down, she pooped, and it was mostly if not entirely water as well.
Right now we have her lying down in the grass, eyes closed, head drooping, but she is still breathing. She seems like she might be dying but does anyone have any idea what this could be?
Because she seems on the edge of death I’m not that concerned with saving her but if it is something contagious that could kill the rest of my flock I want to know.
