I came down to the barn this morning and Matilda, one of my 2 year old hens, was sitting on the ground in their coop, lethargic. Upon closer inspection, i saw that there was blood all over her bum feathers with no apparent wounds.

Last night, I noticed that she was lethargic and her comb was bleeding a bit (I got it to stop), I assumed from a pecking injury, and I thought she was just in shock. But then, as my brother was holding her, she threw up a bunch of water from her crop — essentially her entire crop contents, just water. Once we put her down, she pooped, and it was mostly if not entirely water as well.

Right now we have her lying down in the grass, eyes closed, head drooping, but she is still breathing. She seems like she might be dying but does anyone have any idea what this could be?
Because she seems on the edge of death I’m not that concerned with saving her but if it is something contagious that could kill the rest of my flock I want to know.

What do you mean? She has lived with our flock since she was a baby chick, and is not newly introduced, if that is what you are asking.

Edited to add: She passed away earlier this morning as I was stroking her in the sunshine. Right before she died, she had a seizure and I’m not sure if that is related? because that has happened before as a chicken was dying.

I have no idea what it could be.

I've read that you can take a body to a lab for a necropsy, and they may be able to tell what is wrong, and can test for some diseases.

Other than that, if it is something contagious, you will presumably know when the others start showing symptoms. Which is rather frustrating, when I know you're hoping to figure it out sooner :(

If it was contagious, she would have already infected the others by the time you could see anything wrong, so trying to separate her at that point would not have helped protect the others.
