My mom noticed blood on and around our 2 year old Orpington hen. We inspected her fully and found these scab like lumps on her belly. Any clues on a diagnosis? She is eating and drinking, she is not quite as active as usual, doesn’t go outside as much with the rest.

I did not want to pop or pick them until consulting. She is a big chicken so I’m wondering if the one photo is a callous from rubbing on a roost? My bigger concern is the black one. Thanks for any advice.

The first one looks like a breast blister or callous. Those can become abscessed, and are usually from roosting on something rough or lying on damp bedding. I would use some Betadine or chlorhexidene to clean it daily.

That sounds easy enough. They actually sit on roosts with carpet as we had some issues with bumblefoot. This chicken usually sleeps on the ground at night.
Do you have any opinions on the black scab? Do I pinch it/lance it or leave it be? I was concerned about fly strike but maybe an infected feather follicle?
