They both seemed pretty happy to had found one another again. The blood that was originally on the dog, I assume came from a coon or fox that he caught & killed the night before. Jerry the owner use to raise cochins, so I think the dog was use to chicky's. Even if he had killed my birds I wouldn't ever dispatch an animal for doing what comes naturally. I once dispatched a coyote that had chased a deer to me. The deer stopped 20 feet from me & stood there panting. The pair of coyotes crested the hill & the deer just stood there out of breath looking at me as if to say"aren't you gonna do something" I hollered at the coyotes,& they just stood there with their heads down trying to decide if it was worth getting that deer. I had never seen anything like it. They decided I was no real threat, & headed for the deer again. & I ended the first coyotes life, while the second fled back over the hill. I have had a guilty feeling inside ever since. I've learned that you don't always make the rite decisions in the heat of the moment. Some decisions aren't really ours to make, yet we interfere anyways. I guess that's part of living & learning, & finding out who you are. I'm glad to be able to share my experience with all of you.
Here I thought I was gonna read about a Preditor who got a beat down from your chickens but this was cool as well.
Glad to see the owner had gotten his dog back amd your chickens are all good.
What a great story, and I love that you responded with the happy reunion bit.
I'm also happy to see that you don't automatically shoot. I think that if I did, I would carry it with me forever, too.
