Blood in 1week old chickens poop

Hi all
I have 11 one week old chicks, the past couple of days I have noticed blood in the poop. After observing, it is 3 of them. I did think maybe coccidiosis, but can they get that this young? They are showing no signs of illness and are very bright and alert, eating and drinking.

They are in the brooder in my kitchen which is 2.5ft x 4ft, we just made it for these chicks.

They have chick crumb with ACS. The first couple of days they had water with nutri drench, because I had a little weak one. But now they have plain water.

First: What I don't know about poultry illness and injury would fill books, and does! So take my next sentence with a spoon of salt:

Yes, it sounds like it could be coccidiosis.

Now, the part I am MUCH more confident about.

Here in the US, the most common feed addative coccidiastat is Amprolium. Amprolium is a thiamine antagonist (that is, it blocks thiamine uptake by being a more attractive (but less useful to coccidia) alternative). I assme the UK also uses Amprolium, or something which works via the same mechanism - your feeds are much less well documented than ours across the pond). It is almost completely ineffective in the presence of high thiamine feeds/diets, and poutry nutri booster almost always contains... extra thiamine.

Withhold/discontinue the Nutri Booster, and treat for coccidia as normal. It can't hurt, and it will almost certainly help.

I checked out the ingredients. The UK is very limited as far as chicken feed goes imo.

I notice it says high protein, and the protein is 18.0% would it be ok to add a sprinkle of fish flakes to boost the protein?

Or is 18.0% enough for baby chicks? Thanks

and oddly enough, your fish flakes appear to contain no disclosed B vitamins, including thiamine - which is crazy, since its made with yeast, a good source of those vitamins....

Anyhow, yes, its probably safe. I wouldn't do it personally. 18% is fine for baby chicks. We tend to use higher protein feeds here int he US, because our proteins tend to be of lower quality in their AA balance.

If you feel better giving a treatment for coccidiosis, you can buy Harkers Coxoid there to use in their water. Treated feeds are supposed to help in prevention, but do not always prevent an outbreak. Besides blood in droppings, symptoms can include lethargy and drowsiness, standing hunched or puffed up, and no appetite.

@Eggcessive Thank you for your reply, I have been using this 1.25g in 0.5litre. It says to give multi vitamins after treatment, is this correct or is it unnecessary? Thank you once again

I thought it was clearing up, but woke up to this this morning any suggestions please.could it be the medication I am using? Sorry if anyone is eating their breakfast
