Blood In Nest Box

Ok, went out heard one of my hens doing her song...she was out of the nest...and jumped off and away....I went and go the egg, cracked of course...they move the nesting away and they like to lay on the hard wood...so lately Ive gotten broken eggs....

thinking of putting a padding down under the shavings...

anyways...this is what I found, blood in the nest box....anyone?? Ideas of what it can be....is it serious???

I don't think it's enough to worry much about. I recall having a few pullets that I noticed this with. Just keep an eye...it shouldn't be any worse than this, ever.

I bought some indoor/outdoor carpet at Home Depot to put on the wood floor of my nest boxes, then covered it with shavings. It works like a dream! No broken eggs, and I can remove it & hose it off & hang on the line to dry when it gets dirty - plus, it was inexpensive.

ok, thanks....thats an awesome idea on the nest box cushioning...lol....there gonna live better than we do...heck. Nobody ever put carpet under me when I was in labor...
