Blood in poop. Please help!

Thanks a lot for your awesome suggestions. I am in Canada (British Columbia). I am really hoping that I can get the drugs you talked about from the feed store first thing tomorrow. If not, we will go through the vet, as we won't let our chickens die. And now that Chickisoup described the horrible worms that might be inside them, I won't let the alien invaders win. Thanks again.
Being in Canada make it harder... I'm not positive, but I think you have to go into a vet office and buy Amprol (amprolium) there. You shouldn't have to make an appointment though. You can get Safeguard (fenbendazole) horse paste at a feedstore, but you can't get Safeguard liquid. An alternative to Amprol or Corid (amprolium) would be a Sulfa antibiotic like Sulmet.

If that came out of one of my birds I would worm it with Safeguard (fenbendazole) *and* treat for coccidiosis with amprolium of a sulfa drug, preferably amprolium.

. you should have no problem finding Safeguard. It is sold as a horse and goat wormer. Wazine is the only "official" wormer sold for poultry in the states but it kills only round worms. Safeguard won't kill tapeworms but by the pic those probably aren't your problem anyway-you can tell those by bits that look like large rice in the poop. Most others don't show up at all until the poor bird is SERIOUSLY overloaded, like what happened to me with the roundworms. (lesson learned-never assume the bird has been wormed just because you got it from a breeder)
I had to get my Valbazen by mailorder here in the states but I live way out in the country. Hopefully it's different in Canada.

Valbazen is the best because it kills EVERYTHING and does it slowly giving the bird's body a chance to absorb or pass the "aliens" without risk of clogging the intestinal tract with an overload of dead bodies. This is why I did the Wazine first (goes in the water) got rid of the roundworms, then the Safeguard (a paste you can hide in a piece of bread) 10 days later. This was before I knew about Valbazen.

Oh, the reason you worm again, which ever one you use, 10 days later is because nothing will destroy the eggs already laid by the nasty aliens so you want to break the cycle by killing anything that might have hatched out since before they get a chance to mature and produce more aliens.

If you need more info I recommend you check the link at the bottom of Casportpony's post on worming with horse paste wormer or look up any of Dawg's great posts on worming. (PM me and I will give you the link to when Dawg helped me!!!)

Good Luck!!

In Canada you have to purchase Amprol(amprolium) through a vet(at least in Manitoba you do). Call ahead to make sure they carry Amprol as not all of them do,no appointment needed, but tell them you do not need entire bottle,i purchased 500ml this was for 10 birds and i still have 1/2 bottle left, cost was around $12.00.

Kathy is correct, you can purchase Safeguard horse paste at feed store.
