This morning I saw some blood on my one year old hen. I put on some gloves and went to look in to it further. At one point I thought it might be a prolapse as I saw a big bubble thing come out so I pushed it back in. Later on I noticed flies round about her so I put her in a separate run from the rest where she still is now. She has no grass with her but there are still flies around her even after I gave her a warm bath. Does anyone have any ideas for what I should do?

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Sounds like she could have a bit of prolapse. You need to keep the flies off as they will lay larvae and they will turn into maggots in and on her. Keep her clean and in an area that is not full of flies. If she is prolapsed, use some preperation H on her butt to reduce the swelling. Wash her up with soap and water, dry her off and apply some Prep H. Watch so that she doesn't poop on herself.

You may need to stop her from laying for a while if she is prolapsing. Keep her in an area you can control the light. 8 hours of daylight only and a bit dim at that. Don't give her much protein to stimulate her to release yolks. This should her to stop laying for a while as she heals from the prolapse.

You can also post this in our Emergency section for more help too..

I hope she makes a full recovery.

Ok and thank you for the reply! I will give her a bath first thing tommorow morning-would baby shampoo be good as well? I have got her in a separate run from the rest but I don't know how to keep the flies away. I went to the vets this afternoon and got some stuff to help with keeping the flies away so i applied it not long ago
