Blood on egg after laying...is this cause for concern?

My son just went out to gather eggs, and there was quite a bit of blood on the outside of our Auracana's egg from today. She is approximately 3 years old, has never had difficulty laying before, and seems like she is eating just fine. I fed her strawberries, cantaloupe, and tomatoes today by hand and she is as social as ever (we frequently have to shoo her away from the house because she likes to try and come in to visit). Is this a vent issue, or a precursor to something we should be concerned with? I haven't been able to find a vet who works with chickens in our area, so we have to care for our chickens on our own.

I see you haven't had a reply so hopefully I can bump this and somebody else might help. I had one hen one year old who quit laying for a week. I think it was b/c I had to change her sleeping location if that makes any sense. Anyway, it must have bothered her and when she began laying again after the adjustment, there was blood on the egg. I suggest you wait esp if it is not a lot of blood if she doesn't seem to be actively bleeding out of her vent and see what happens with the next egg if it improves. With mine, the next egg after that was normal. Maybe someone else can offer their experience with this. Hope everything goes well with your hen.

Are you absolutely sure it's blood and not staining from the tomatoes? If so, I would check her vent to make sure it looks normal. If her next egg is normal for her, I wouldn't worry too much.
