I went out to collect eggs today and on one of the bantam eggs was dried red blood. You can tell it happened as it was being laid. Is this something I should be worried about?
Also my rooster has a spot on his foot where the skin has peeled away. He dont like to put pressure on it either. What can I do? SHould I put an anaseptic cream or spray on it. Should I cover it or just let it be? Thanks for any help.

check out the hens for any signs of injury or prolapse.
sometimes they tear a little when laying the egg..

how bad is the sore?
check the bottom of the foot for sore or scab..also check the whole foot including between toes.
if you find a scab post back and describe.
check for heat in the foot ...

clean the rooster's foot with betadine tea (watered down betadine or iodine) or saline.
treat with neosporin or polysporin.
cover if you can..
keep him confined to a warm, safe, smallish area with food and water and good bedding so he can rest the foot.
if it doesn't get any better in a day or so, he might need and antibiotic to treat for staph infection.

Thanks for the help. i cleaned his whole foot with a wound cleanser the hospital gave me when my husband had his liver transplant. Then i sprayed it w/ an anaseptic spray. He has a couple of bubbles w/ fluid in them on the top of his foot where the toes "y". the day after I cleaned it, there was a scab (black) over it. He has a few of them on both feet but the one is the only one that opened and seem to bother him. Could it be frost bite on the top? Other than that he is eating and drinking fine but he still can't make it to the top roost. He does have a hen that roosts next to him at night. I'll try to figure out who to post pics. Thanks again for you help.
