Hello,

I have 3 hens that I got as 18 week old April 2019- bovan brown ). Once they started laying, they produced 1 egg each everyday until this Feburary where some days I would get 2 and some days 3. Winter has been pretty mild and hens have never had any helath issues. One hen has been given me an egg with some blood on it. Sometime it's just a little, sometimes more and sometimes not at all but it all sarted a couple of weeks ago. I've taken a look at all their vents and the bloody one has a bit of blood on her feathers and her vent is red but not prolapsed. She seems well other than that (eats, drinks but maybe a bit smaller than she was). They have access to clean water, food, grit and oyster shells since I got them. I read up and everyone is saying it's either an old hen that has layed for a long time and must have a prolapse or a young hen that just started laying her layed a large egg (all those scenarios arent the case). The eggs are smooth (not pumpy). Any thought would be helpful thanks :)

It happens occasionally and it is usually nothing to worry about. They simply break a small blood vessel in the vent area and it can have a tough time healing b/c of the daily egg. Since she seems otherwise healthy I would just monitor closely. :)
