I'm really concerned that one of my hens may have had an egg break inside of her. They poop on top of the nesting box at night and when I went in to gather eggs this morning, there was bloody goopy looking stuff and a tinge of yellow that looked like it might be yolk. What should I do? None of them have been acting funny, and we just checked their vents and abdomens about a week ago to make sure that none of them were egg bound. I also watch them nearly daily for a bit to see if they're acting normal. Should I go ahead and check the buff's vents again? They are the ones that sleep on top of the nesting box at night. None of them was acting strange this morning BTW. The only thing I've noticed, is that 1 of the Buffs has been broody the last 3ish days, wanting to be in the nesting box sitting on top of all of the eggs. But I think that's normal with Buffs, right?
They get their pellets mixed with grit and oyster shell daily, as well as grass, clover, and sometimes alfalfa. I've even been putting lavender and rosemary in the nesting boxes some days to help them be calm when laying.
Thank you for any help. I'm really concerned about prolapse or an egg being stuck.
