Every once in awhile one of my hens will lay an egg with a blood spot in it or a dark brown spot. I have no roosters. What may this be? I need an answer for my sister who seems to think something is wrong.

Thanks,

Deb

It's normal. They candle the commercial eggs so they don't get sold to the public. It is when there is a little blood vessel that ruptures at the time the egg is formed.

I just pick out the blood or meat spots and cook the eggs. No problem.

Don't think they candle them here, I've had blood eggs a couple of times, an egg with blood all through it. Gross lol.

We get the brown bits in the bought eggs, hubby eats them anyway, I have to scoop it out first.
