I get quite a few eggs with either blood spots in them or brown spots near the yolk that almost look like dirt has gotten into them. Is this normal? a sign of something? I usually throw them out but I would like to prevent them if it means there is something wrong with my girls. Are they safe to eat? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

They're fine to eat. The brown spots are bits of lining of the reproductive tract aka "meat spots", and blood spots are not uncommon, either. They may be a bit unappetizing, so you can remove them before cooking, but neither will hurt you or make you sick.
