Dear BYC,
Problem 1# I have a darling Splash Silkie who is getting eaten alive by gnats! The horrible creatures have left her head and chin to breast bloodied . I have tried multiple cures to get rid of the annoying pests . Diatomaceous earth, vanilla, insect repellant bracelet and fly biter? (I think that's what it was called) . I don't know what else to do! She's always scratching herself and crying and I feel horrible about it . ORGANIC and preferably INEXPENSIVE suggestions would be very helpful . Can I put aloe on the bites? Should I gently wash the bloodied areas?
Problem 2# Silkie Baby gets a near bursting crop every EARLY evening . I've read that it's normal if the chicken has been a pig (no offense piggies), but is it normal if it keeps happening? She's free ranged so should I pen her up and ration food?
Thanks in advance.
