I discovered a hen with caked blood on her comb and feathers around her comb and eyes were also tinged with red from blood. I separated her and tried to clean the blood off gently, and I couldn’t find an injury. We had extremely cold temps about two weeks ago for a long period for over a week so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is frostbite related. It’s still pretty cold out so I just cleaned her up a bit with some antiseptic and put her by herself in the shop. Anyone with experience with this type of injury? Why did it bleed? Did the other chickens attack her? I guess it’s possible that my dog or some other animal might have also caused the injury.
