Bloody Comb -- Anything Else I Should Do?

Repecka, a California White pullet who had just started laying, has a small but bloody wound on her comb -- presumably from not getting the mating mechanics correct with the rooster and her big, floppy comb.

I've coated it with blue lotion and plan. On keeping an eye on her. Anything else I should be doing?

(I have almost zero experience with chicken injuries).

Best I can tell, she may be missing some feathers on her head, but the mess comes entirely from her comb.

You can take a wet towel or cloth to try cleaning it off her feathers if it's not too cold out. BluKot would be best as long as you don't accidentally get any on her eyes. You might want to separate her from the rooster for a few days for her heal.

As far as comb injuries, they're common and usually not anything to be overly concerned about. Stopping the bleeding and making sure they're not getting pecked as a result of a comb injury is the top things to look out for.

I wasn't home today to watch over her, but she seems to be her normal self.

I realized that I never updated this.

She healed well and hasn't been injured again. I expect that she's learned to squat properly.
