My 5 month old Japanese Bantam rooster has been having bloody diarrhea since this morning. He will have normal poop and then complete blood at times. He is acting fine, eating and as far as I know drinking ok. From what I have read he probably has coccidiosis. I started him on Corid this morning. But I'm just not sure if he has coccidiosis because he is acting ok. He had a pear last night and has had ripe tomatoes once in awhile. Could it be something he ate? We have several other chickens and some ducks. Should I treat all of them? He has been separated from them since last night. Will the ducks be ok if they get some Corid? How long until the bloody diarrhea will stop if it is coccidiosis and he is being treated? How do I know if he is drinking his water (because that is what the medicine is in)?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Blood in the poop could be cocci as you say but when read that he's had some fresh tomato could it be that he has had a bit much and it's the red of it coming through? Sometimes if they have a little too many treats it can come through them. I would still keep him seperated untill you know for sure though . Also if you could post some pics in the emergencies injuries disease and cure section. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures
I'm sure lots of members there will be able to help you further. Pics and a good description are so helpful.

Wishing you the very best of luck :frow

Thank you for the advice yorkshire coop. It's definitely not tomatoes, he has had too much blood and it is bright red. I will try to figure out how to post in the section you mentioned. Still trying to figure this site out. Thanks again!

Good luck to you, nice to have you here.

Thanks everyone! BYC is a great community. Since I started him on the Corid he has had way less blood. Only a small amount in one poop today. So hopefully this will work.
