Just went to collect eggs and I have a Golden Commet that has bloody vent feathers and I have a bloody egg. What is it? What should I do? She is active and comb is a good color.

The egg wasn't broken till my kids "helped" me. LOL Thank you so much for any help!

being a year and a half makes it harder for me to say

but my pullet did that when she was 25 weeks

i just washed it and kept it clean and she recovered by her self now she is closing onto 35-40 weeks old and as healthy as an ox

OK, Thanks. I have seen a bit of blood on a few eggs before but not like this and I have never seen it in vent feathers before. Makes me nervous.

it can be scary

as long as she is good in her self and the other hens dont peck her vent she should recover

washing will help remove blood so pecking dont occur

she prob will still lay eggs and you will notice the blood reduce as the days go by till its all gone and she is better

OK, I went down last night, washed her off and saw no new blood. Her vent didnt look bloody, not too sure what it should look like normally but it was pinkish white color. Not protruding. She looks good. Heres hoping it was a freak thing. Thanks everyone for the help! I appreciate it!
