I found a bloody egg for the second day in a row. Yesterday one was laying in the yard and had just a hint of blood on it. Today I find one on the floor under the roost, but it is covered with dried blood.

I will be checking butts this evening at bed time, but what do you think it could be? What can I do for the hen that is having the problem?

Is it her first couple eggs?? Or maybe its her first time sneaking behind the coop with your studly roo...those thing can happen your first time. Maybe you should have the chicken & bees talk with her.

No studly roo. All 22 of my girls are still...well you know. The right man for them has just not come around yet.

I'll still check butts at bedtime to make sure there isn't anything sticking out that shouldn't be, but otherwise I won't worry about it.

Thanks for the advise!

Last week we found a bloody egg in the coop two days in a row but the last day there was a dead chicken laying there with a bloody rear. There was also alot of blood on the straw in the coop around and you could see where it had walked. Now this week we have found a bloody egg two days in a row and another chicken with a bloody rear but it is still alive. It is aso leaving bloody streaks on the straw in places. What could this be and how can I stop it? Could it be from a diet change? It is winter here and between 0 and -40 C. I don't know if that could be part of it, the coop is heated. I also don't have any roosters.
