This is a quail but I’m posting it in here because no one sees posts in the quail group and I’m panicking. I had one dead yesterday in the same cage as this one with a little bit of blood by it’s nostril and now this one I found bloody too what can this be?

Sorry to hear about your loss. I am not familiar with quail but can ask some basic questions to potentially speed up getting you some help.

Any other symptoms?
Age of deceased bird?
Age of this bird?

Have they been getting frightened and bashing into things?

@Nabiki can you help here or maybe tag a few quail experienced helpers?

I haven’t noticed any symptoms while I’ve been out here. I found the dead one last evening but in that morning I checked on them and all were fine. This one that’s bleeding shows no symptoms it’s eating and drinking but no coughing or strange noises. The deceased one is the same age as this one so both are 5 weeks.

Can you describe their housing set up?

At just 5 weeks being frightened by something is a distinct possibility.

I have been looking for quail people that are online and not seeing many right now.

@007Sean If you can please advise here.

I agree this is likely from hardware cloth, or something else in the cage that may be sharp. Are they outside? Maybe you have a predator around they are trying to escape from?

How high is your roof? A head bonk/broken neck may not always show external injury.

Without a necropsy being performed, there's really no way to tell what was the issue. It could be a Vitamin K deficiency, or an infectious respiratory disease? or could have been the results of them 'flushing'? Without lab test for pathogens, we're just 'grasping at straws'. A vet visit or a necropsy performed by you're state lab would be the best way to find out what is causing this issue.

Having 2 birds with blood in the nostril, and one dying, I would be concerned about ILT respiratory disease if there are gasping, coughing, but it could be pecking by another quail (?male) or an injury or wire fencing.

If this were just one bird, I would guess injury, but with multiple, there is a lot more concern. I would send the deceased bird to your state necropsy lab. Separate the one that is now showing symptoms and make sure it's warm.

What are they eating?
What is their setup like?
Are they eating and drinking?
What does their poop look like?
