this is my first time raising chickens. I have 14 Rhode island red chicks, about a week old. I can out to check on them and found blood in a pile of poop. it scared me. I called our local feed store and they recommended giving them amprolium in their water. and I was also told I should have been feeding them medicated feed. which where I bought them, they never told me that. so they are now on the medicated food, and have the amprolium in their water. am I doing this right? please help,I don't want to lose any babies. thank you!!!

! Great to have you aboard! I'm unsure of the treatment - you might post in the link below. Good luck to you and your hen!

thank you!!! I just realized I just posted this I'm the wrong part. oops! Lol

Corid (amprolium) in the water is faster and more concentrated than the trace amount in the feed. In an area of high concentration of the cysts, the medicated feed alone often is not enough. Once the chicks are put on the ground, where the cysts are infesting, they overwhelm the digestive tract of the chicks.

Feed them yogurt or raw milk to soothe the intestines and keep up with the treated water and all will be well. Powdered 20% Corid is 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. Lots of folks forgo the medicated feed as it is often seen as ineffective and merely use treated water with the chicks as they hit the ground, and perhaps starting a week prior to leaving the brooder.

Some strains are deadly and can wipe out a flock in horrendous speed. Sounds like you're on top of it now.

thank you so much! I think they are doing ok, they are all eating and drinking, and I've only found the one poop with blood. I hope they pull through, I'll be very sad to loose my chicks.
