Bloody tail feathers!!

I think we may be over the hump (knock on wood). We put the offender in a time out and that seemed to help.

And we got them distracted with yogurt, so hopefully the worst is past.

I hope so. Chickens can be so difficult sometimes.......

When it comes to an injured bird, only time will resolve most issues. The injured bird needs time to heal on her own. Anything out of the ordinary about their appearance will draw the attention of the others (blood, bald spot, blue-cote, etc.) and cause bad behavior. You would do best by keeping her separate from the rest but within sight of each other, if at all possible. That way, when you finally do reintegrate them, they won't think she is a stranger & start beating up on her. Easier said than done, I know, but necessary sometimes. Good luck with your babies.

I'm having the same issue except with 25 month old chicks and theyre free range I can't find the offenders and I can't seperate the injured ones until possibly tomorrow we used to have the ducks in with them too... bad idea... the chickens picked their wings until blood was pouring from the wounds and in ones case the chickens actully continues pecking the skin beneth the wing opened the abdomen up and pulled out some of the poor quakers innerds we sewed the pitiful thing up but it died yesterday the intresting thing is we had a cripple duck in at the same time and it went virtualy untouched while it was the biggest fluffiest duck that died.

More or less uneventful day- got a foster chick the same age, same batch of chicks , etc, and they will be going into the little brooder overnight. During the day, they have eyes on them all the time where we can prevent anything from happening. At night, they should be ok away from the pickers, and really, it's been just the one.

Maybe we ought to quarantine her!

I think we're good, but will be up again tonight watching.....

Thought I'd check and see how she was doing....sorry that your still having problems but unfortunately sometimes it doesn't stop, we had to cull our offender and touch wood had no problems since!
