Our 2 1/2 year old Production Red maiden hen has been losing feathers on her breast (which looks a bit irritated, losing weight and frequently has about an 1 inch string of blood in her almost daily eggs. She also has black specks on her comb. Rosie's energy level is good and otherwise seems normal. The rear end puff of feathers below her vent is about 2 1/2" while our Barred Rock and Americana have about a 5" puff. This is the basis for the weight loss and her breast feel very bony. They are fed an organic grain mix and I recently started allowed some free ranging thinking that might help. They have a bath area of DE and ashes, (recent addition). No wild bird can gain access to their coop. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation?

Thanks.
