Fairly new to chickens, and I am a little (ok a lot) confused about the genetics and colors of the BLRW! I have some bantams that I am hoping to breed next year, but I need some help! I have two bantam BLRW (splash variety) who both turned out to be cockerels. They are both beautiful to me, but I'm not sure what to look for in which one I should use for breeding. (not needing SQ birds). I got two more chicks from same breeder (hoping to get hens), and was told they were the "blue" variety rather than splash. They are only about 3 weeks old, but appear to be solid charcoal feathers at this time. Here are my questions:
1. is there a difference in "blue" wyandotte and "blue-laced red" wyandotte? I've read tons of articles/posts, and I understand that the BLRW can be blue, black or splash in color, however I haven't seen anything that applies to a solid-colored bird.
2. maybe the two young chicks will develop red color later...??
3. if they are solid in color, what happens if i breed the splash cockerel to the solid blue hen?
4. can i make a decision now about which boy to keep for breeding, or do i need to wait until older? (they are about 4 mo old and have been very slow to feather out)
Will be attaching pics below

There is a difference. Blue/ splash laced red is different from solid blue, which those chicks are.
