I ordered 3 blue laced red wyandottes from Welp hatchery. The box that was labeled with them contained other birds that were obviously the breeds listed. These are the only ones that weren't obvious, so by process of elimination, these are the BLRW.

I saw on feathersite that the BLRW chicks can be a wide range of colors. Have any of you seen chicks this light before?

I get that, but go to this site and scroll down to the blue laced reds and some of them look like mine, very very light. Scroll down further and there's one that's very very dark.

I'm going to keep a weekly photo journal of my chicks, so I know I'll find out for sure once they're full grown. The box from Welp called them Red Laced Wyandotte, but their site lists them as blue laced red wyandotte.

If you look closely at those pictures, you'll see that even the light ones have darker tracks down their backs, yours look unicoloured. Is it possible that they mixed up your order and sent you buff wyandottes?

What kind of comb do they have? Wyandottes should have rose combs. Their legs should be yellow too, not pink like they are. I've hatched a lot of BLRWs and never seen any that light.....even the lightest of the splash have some markings down their back.

They very well could have. I'm going to be talking to them on Monday about the one chick that didn't make it, so I'll mention it to them.

Here's a pic of the 5 supposed BLRW chicks with 5 salmon favorelles. This was in the box they were shipped in. In the box were GLW, SLW, partridge rock, salmon favorelle, and "red laced wyandotte." I took out the GLW, SLW, and PR, and this is what was left:

You can see they are darker buff and have a marbling on their backs. It's not clear in the pic I posted first.

They turned away when I took this pic.

You may want to take a closer look at what you think are the GLW. The coloration is somewhat similar and blue is a variation of the black color. The blue chicks or other breeds that I have typically look very similar in appearance to their black siblings at the start. Plus you have to remember that there will be a percentage of blue offspring that are black.

Good Luck.
