This young rooster is new to us and was aggressive in last flock they thought due to overcrowding/few hens etc.
He spent the first few days here in our wooded area bc he escaped. He attacked my sweet hen I put in with him (large area, plenty of food and water).
I thought he was going to be a wild rooster living in the woods. Some suggested on here not to breed him bc his personality can be passed on to offspring.
Yesterday he was real friendly to people he met in yard. Last night he flew up to my arm and let me pet him. 😳
He is super friendly now, like trying to come inside even.
Back story is the young girl who raised them would sit in their run and talk/interact.
My question about his aggressive behavior to hens is, can it change? I’m so shocked by how gentle he is with us.
I’ve read they are a 1 rooster to flock which is why I tried initially him to my sweet hen. Maybe too early? I can’t believe he’s sweet to humans and a total jerk to the hens.

How old is he? Please explain exactly what he did to attack your hen.
He’s about 6 months old, ordered by friend from hatchery.
When he attacks the hens he gets very low and runs fast and rams them. He resembles a bullet. He hasn’t tried to mount them, just run them thru.
His previous home had 4 roosters and 2 hens in a very small area.
The first day we had him, put in large fences in area w food and water. I brought my sweetest hen to introduce and he did that ramming her w his beak/head

Here’s an update on his behavior.
2 hens escaped in the yard yesterday and he did his bullet run at them. He was promptly put in the brooder box, timeout.
This morning he coaxed a hen out of the fenced in garden (I take them daily there to clean it up etc) and he mounted her!!!
Then he did his bullet run at her but she was too fast, not hurt.
Is this normal? Seems getting better? Wishful thinking?

He seeks out more attention from humans than chickens btw including trying to come inside

When he does the "bullet run" what is the outcome? Does he actually collide with the hens? Are the hens actually hurt or do they just run away from him? My roosters do the "bullet run" (charge with head down) to rogue hens who have wandered off. The roos are herding the hens back to the flock. My hens just run away from the roos and then rejoin the flock and all is well. It would be helpful if you had a video of what your roo is doing and how the hens react, but in my opinion it just sounds like he's trying to round up or herd his hens which is one of the jobs of a rooster. This is purely speculative on my part without seeing what is happening, but it could be that he's currently too young and juvenile for the hens to respect him yet. If he's indeed trying to herd them by running at them and they're not moving, that's what that sounds like to me.

How old are your hens?

The first bullet run he did to my sweet hen he did hit her. She flew over the fence and hid under our house for the longest time, I assumed bruised
