I've recently got a blue Ameraucana (supposedly) hen. We think she may be an Ameraucana or an Easter eager. She's blue and has got wheaten on her head, so maybe she'll end up being a splash? Looking at her comb, and how red it it she could be a rooster!! Her feathers are very much like a hens, but we want to make sure that she's female, no roosters allowed around here...

So we need to know if she's a:
Ameraucana or Easter Egger
Hen or Rooster
and if possible, how old do you think she is?

We're not exactly sure how old it is, maybe around 4-6 months?
How could you tell that it was an Easter egger?
Do you know the gender?

That gold showing up on the chest and head is not standard coloring. And I see yellow showing through the webbing in between the toes, which means that bird has yellow skin. If it's a cockerel, it's between 10 and 12 weeks old. It could be a 6 month old pullet, though and in that case, eggs should start being laid very soon. You should now in a few more weeks which it is for sure.

Without an age, gender is pretty difficult to judge. A 10 week old cockerel looks a lot like a 6 month old pullet. By 14 weeks old, cockerels start to have obvious male feathering and they start to look very different.

If it's a pullet, she should be laying any day now. If a few weeks go by and there still aren't any eggs, it's probably a cockerel. Keep an eye out for long, thin, pointed feathers growing in on the back, near the base of the tail in the next few weeks. Those will be a for sure confirmation of cockerel.
