Blue/black/splash genes

I don't have those girls anymore I lost them to a fox. They both had white legs I am not sure why Meyer hatchery had good quality birds then but most of the time the hatcheries have very poor quality birds.

So what happens when you breed blue to blue and get the 25% black and then you breed these blacks to each other? Would all the offspring be black or will you also get a small % of color variation?
Another question is what colors can I expect crossing silkies like red to black and red to blue.
I have spent hours on the net looking for plain english answers to these questions....I've been out of school for close to 40 years and this brain just doesn't comprehend the way it did back then.
Now I know results can be unusual because I crossed a leghorn hen with a wheaten ameraucana roo and got white feathered with black spots, slate legs, single combed offspring. Unfortunately only have 1 left but the remaining pullet lays a beautiful large pale blue egg.

Hey Chic,
I cant tell you much about the genetics for red and the silkie colors you asked about. I have only breed the Blues in either Jersey Giants or Old English so its about the only one I know. The black I get from the blue to blue breeding I put back over a splash or blue.I dont breed them black to black much because i'm looking for the blue color. The times I have breed them together I got Black.

Thanks, that's what I figured but I was hoping to get some of the blues out of them. My silkies are from Ideal and Performance ( the reds) hatcheries and I have to say I'm dissapointed with them but there are so few breeders up here in Alberta I thought I'd take my chances. I ordered blue, the hatch down was blue but they feathered out looking more black then blue.....

When do you know color?

So... where does the Lavender gene come from then? Do Black birds that carry the Blue gene also carry the Lavender gene?

Hi,
Which is the Rooster and which is the hen? Or does it even matter. Is the code always:- Rooster color X Hen color = % ?
Thanks.
