Blue buff columbian

Hi everyone!

Another colour question for all you super knowledgeable people out there

How do you create that lovely blue buff colouring? I own orpingtons and have the following colours to hand:
Buff
Partridge
Buff Columbian
Gold laced
Blue
Blue splash
Black

I know it won't be as simple as mixing a blue hen with a buff cockeral; it never is!

Any advice is much appreciated! (please don't tell me I have to buy even more colours.......My husband might leave me!)

That's great news! At least I don't now have to buy a different colour!
Is there anything you don't know moonshiner?!

One last quick question, would a blue cross a plain buff end up as blue/buff mixed colour or would blue be dominant over buff?

Blue buff mixed color and black buff mixed color.
Extended black sucks whenever trying to breed it to other varieties.

In that case keep breeding in the columbian direction. There will be some reds and blacks popping up as well.

Cross Buff Columbian with Splash, take the best looking F1s can cross them back to Buff Columbian, about 25% of the Back cross(BC1) will be blue buff columbian, but lots of culls(buff columbian, blacks, blues)

You can use the chicken calculator and enter their known genetics.

Buff Columbian: Wheaten(eWh/eWh), Co/Co(Columbian), s+/s+(sex linked gold)
Splash: Extended Black(E/E), co+/co+(not columbian), Bl/Bl(Splash) S,s+(could be gold or silver, chances are that is gold)

the cross will be E/eWh, Co/co+, Bl/bl. They will have a blue chick down and mature with gold leakage on the breast.

This is an old thread but I am curious why breeding a splash instead of blue to the buff columbian. Anyone know?

Not gonna read the thread but I'm gonna say it's because splash would create 100% chicks with blue.
Blue would only create 50% chicks with blue.
