Hi All,

I have a trio of Blue Eared Pheasant and the condition of their feathers are really bad. They have little to no feathers around the neck/chest region as well as very few on their back. I have a number of other pheasants and their feather condition is perfect so I don't think it has to do with their feed. I read that they often peck each other's feathers when there is a lack of cellulose in their diet. Any help would be much appreciated!

Howdy Grant and Welcome to BYC!

Could you post some pics of your birds? How old are the birds? It could be they are molting, (according to your location). Feathers missing from the back is usually from breeding but could be from overcrowding, too!
They usually eat feathers if they are not getting enough protein. A feed that is complete and balanced of at least 24% protein should be fed.
Have you witnessed any aggressive behavior, chasing eachother and pecking at eachother?
